Why choose an independent surgery center?
Would you continue shopping at the same store if you had to pay double? Know the facts about your next GI procedure. Many Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASCs) in North Texas are selling to hospital systems. In fact, over 60 percent of surgery centers in this area are now owned by hospitals. This transfer of ownership changes the way insurance reimburses the facility, and it means your next GI procedure may cost you 2 to 3 times more than you previously paid for the same procedure.
According to guroo.com, the cost of a preventative colonoscopy screening is an average of $2,947 in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, while at North Texas Endoscopy Centers it is less than $2,000. That $2,000 is typically offset by a majority payment from your insurance company. Pay less for top quality healthcare.
What is an ``ASC``?
ASC is short for Ambulatory Surgery Center. It is a facility where outpatient surgeries and procedures are performed. ASCs were developed over 30 years ago to provide patients with outstanding medical care and a more personalized experience – usually at a more reasonable cost than hospitals. They are staffed and designed for specific medical procedures, giving patients easier, timelier access to high quality care.
Why does a hospital-owned facility cost more?
When a hospital buys an ASC, you pay more for the “facility fee.” This is because Medicare and private insurance companies reimburse a hospital or health system-owned outpatient facility more than they do an independent ASC. So you, the patient, are now charged 2 to 3 times more for this facility fee for the same service.
What do you mean by a “facility fee?”
When you have a medical procedure, you are charged a fee for use of the medical facility. This includes costs such as the nurses and technicians who care for you during your stay, the surgical equipment and the drugs and supplies used during your procedure. Facility fees for the exact same procedure can be substantially different based on where your procedure is performed. If you choose a hospital-affiliated facility, you pay more. If you choose an independent ASC, you pay less.
But how will you know if it is an independent ASC?
Rarely is it clear to a patient whether the facility is hospital-owned, unless it is actually on a hospital’s campus. When your physician refers you to a medical facility for an outpatient procedure, ask about how its ownership might affect your out-of-pocket costs. North Texas Endoscopy Centers (NTEC) are proponents of price transparency in medical spending and proud to provide our patients high quality care at an excellent value.
NTEC is one of the few remaining INDEPENDENT endoscopy centers in North Texas. If you choose a hospital-affiliated facility, you will pay more for exactly the same procedure.
You have a choice when it comes to your medical care; we want to help you make an informed one.

Cecal Intubation Rate
Cecal intubation rate is defined as the percentage of times the physician makes it to the cecum, which is a pouch that connect the small and large intestine and is considered the first portion of the large bowel. This quality measure demonstrates the physician’s ability to examine the entire colon during a colonoscopy.
Withdrawal time is the average amount of time a physician spends scanning the colon for polyps as the scope is withdrawn. The quality indicator demonstrates the physician’s ability to consistently and effectively provide a thorough exam during a colonoscopy.
Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC)
All five of NTEC’s independent endoscopy centers are certified by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC), a certification awarded to ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs) that uphold nationally-recognized standards in patient care, medical safety, and operational efficiency.
